IT MATTERS.
As volunteers drove onto our campus they were greeted by gentleman who were wearing white button up shirts and bow ties. We encouraged cars full of people to come right up to the front door so that when they stepped out of their car they would step onto the red carpet. We had another team of gentleman opening the doors for people as they stepped onto the red carpet. They walked into the building on the red carpet with paparazzi taking pictures and offering to take pictures for them with their phones.
As the volunteers entered the venue the auditorium they walked under a sign that said “Step Right Up”. Our staff who was lining the red carpet going into the venue. Every single volunteer that walked on the red carpet was welcome with cheers, claps and many high fives. At the end of the cheers they were greeted by more of the gentleman in bow ties to help them find their seat. The stage was a solid black curtain with a podium we made with the Volees logo. We had a few more gentleman in bow ties walking around the auditorium as everyone was being seated handing out popcorn and water.
Then the show began! We started the show off with an an intro video. Our Hosts were two of our guys on Staff named Chris and Chris. They start out in their tuxes at the park feeding ducks. Chad, our worship pastor calls them and asks them where they are and that they need to be here to host the volees. They go into panic mode and the video follows them on their ridiculous trek back to the church. They try to find a shortcut which brings them to the roof. That is when we cut to live at the volees.
Chris and Chris enter dropping from the catwalk. They repelled of the catwalk with microphones to talk to the audience while coming down. The crowd went wild! They loved it! The hosts then introduced the awards. There were 6 awards that represented the 6 mega-ministries we have. All of the ministries fall under one of these overarching ministries. We had 2 videos that were sprinkles through the awards to break it up. We enjoyed having all of the teams come up on stage while we recognized their team’s contribution to the mission of the church.
After all the awards were given we welcomed Pastor as he thanked all the volunteers and gave a quick word of encouragement. He talked about how what we matters. The theme was “It Matters.” While pastor talked he launched a brand new initiate called the City Project where we pledged to give away 6,000 hours and $60,000 to our city. We showed a video that described it and launched our website. http://highstreet.org/iheartmycity/
When paster concluded Chris and Chris came in from the back of the auditorium on a tandem bike. They rode up the stage and thanked everyone for coming. We wanted everyone to feel like VIP’s so we invited everyone to the after party. We had 2 gentleman with bow ties lead the crowd into the gym, where we had transformed the space into a high end whimsical carnival. I got my inspiration from this blog entry (http://greenweddingshoes.com/real-wedding-erin-brents-old-world-carnival-wedding/).
The room was lit up with twinkly lights stringed throughout the room with upside down red umbrellas. The focal point of the room was 2 girls in cute dresses swinging with the food tables in a square around them. The food was so fun! We had corn dogs, fruit kabobs, Hawaiian sandwiches, cheese and crackers. Behind them we had a row of fair games to play. In the corner we had a sign that was lit up that said “EAT” where we served strawberry shortcake. In another corner we had a lemonade bar. We had volunteers working the bar and mixing in raspberry and strawberry flavoring. In the third corner we had a fun photo booth that we hired someone to make just for this event. The last corner was our City Project table. At this table people could sign up to volunteer and purchase a City Project shirt.
PROMO FOR THE EVENT
Here is our promo video.
The Sunday before The Volees I had a live promo in the middle of our announcement video. There were about 10 college students dressed up like how I wanted everyone to dress for the event. I liked being more subtle in giving people an idea of what to where. They all walked to the front of the stage like models and began to pose, while I had one of them invite everyone to come to the Volees.
Here is a picture.
